    biography

    Cal joined the Tawfik Lab in June 2021 as a full-time Research Assistant. He graduated from the University of Redlands in the Spring of 2021 as a student-athlete with a degree in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Mathematics. His past research experience was focused on understanding the role of the extracellular matrix protein Agrin in cardiac regeneration post-infarct. In the Tawfik Lab, he hopes to build on his experience to shape his scientific approach as well as contribute to the growing understanding of the neuroimmune influence on chronic pain.

    Outside of the lab, Cal enjoys watching and playing sports including baseball, skiing/snowboarding, and basketball.
