Anahis earned her PhD in Pathobiology from the University of Texas at El Paso, where she studied how Francisella tularensis infection affects the brain and behavior under the mentorship of Dr. Charles Spencer. In the Tawfik Lab, Anahis is excited to explore how pain influences cognitive function and contributes to neurodegeneration.

Outside the lab, Anahis enjoys collecting rocks, minerals, and plants. She loves exploring  new beaches, playing board games, and hosting charcuterie board nights with friends.
