    biography

Janelle Siliezar-Doyle is a graduate student in the Neurosciences PhD program, and joined the lab in August 2019. She is interested in understanding the role of astrocytes in chronic pain, and how early-life pain can affect the development of the CNS.

Before coming to Stanford, she wrangled alligators as an undergraduate at California State University, San Bernardino in the comparative animal physiology lab of Dr. Tomasz Owerkowicz. She then switched her focus to brains, and during a summer internship with Dr. Marion Buckwalter at Stanford, she studied post-stroke responses of microglia and discovered her love for glia cells.

Janelle is passionate about science communication and diversity in science. Outside of lab, she enjoys running, bird watching, and spending any sort of time near the ocean.
