Chelsie L. Brewer, PhDPostdoctoral Fellow

    biography

Dr. Brewer is a postdoctoral fellow in the Tawfik lab. She completed her graduate work from 2015–2019 at the University of Cincinnati with Dr. Mark Baccei, where she studied the development and effects of early life injury on spinal somatosensory circuits. After moving to Stanford in 2020 to begin her postdoctoral work with Dr. Julie Kauer, she studied the plasticity of spinal nociceptive circuits following inflammatory injury. In the Tawfik lab, she has been working to understand the functional contribution of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons in the context of aging, nerve injury, and cellular senescence. Jointly with the Tawfik and Kauer labs, she is characterizing the profiles of DRG neurons driving pain in knee osteoarthritis. Beyond her scientific interests, Dr. Brewer is involved with the United States Association for the Study of Pain as an active volunteer on the Education and Professional Development Committee.
